A NOTE FROM THE EDITOR

1775 - 1996

Nonember 10, 1996
221st Birthday

Hope you had a great Marine Corps Birthday and Veteran's Day holiday. Another new computer virus alert, results of the October golf tournament, and a reminder of the informal luncheon this Friday are the only news items. A call for volunteer marshals for the Hawaiian Open and opinions about sending Christmas cards using snail mail are included in this issue.

There is a computer virus that is being sent across the Internet. If you receive an e-mail message with the subject line "Irina", DO NOT read the message. DELETE it immediately. Some miscreant is sending people files under the title "Irina". If you receive this mail or file, do not download it. It has a virus that rewrites your hard drive, obliterating anything on it. Please be careful and forward this mail to anyone you care about.

NOVEMBER LUNCHEON-

The initial informal luncheon for 1843ers will be held at the Hickam AFB Officer's Club on Friday, 15 Nov 96. We will block off an area on the lanai and meet between 1130 and 1300. Bring any old photos you have of past 1843 events and I will try to get them scanned for the newsletter and home page. If you want the photos back, bring a SASE or wait for the next luncheon. Karen

- OPINIONS -

Sending Christmas cards to all your friends during the Post Office's busiest time of the year is overloading the system. I can see sending gifts to friends away but sending a card to a person that sits next to you in the office or that you see everyday is a bit much. Personally wishing your friend a Merry Christmas is nicer. Sending Seasons Greeting via EMail should be an ecologically better way by saving the trees and fuel needed to transport the card. What's your opinion?
