The influence of pop culture on politics, economics and lifestyle in Japan

We have undertaken the study of the problem of "pop culture". The "pop culture" tends to lead trend of society around the world. Is the current lifestyle of Japanese young people the "real" or the "fads"?

"pop culture" varies to all sorts of area, for example fashion, music, and manga. And each aims at the young people and they sensitively receive the idea included in those resources. These days it is often said that modern people isn't interested in social issues. Is this true? If so, is "pop culture" affects modern people? At first, to know more about young people today, let us find out about young people in old days. we looked at young people in 60s.

As we mentioned above, there are variety of things to influence young people in old as well as today. One of the things which has a great influence is cartoons. As many of Japanese read cartoons in all generations, some types of MANGA contains the critical meaning in it to political issues and as people read a lot of MANGA. They often get information and ideas about anything related to our society. Also as cartoon character get famous there are companies to produce that of T-shirts, toys and so on (PINGU, SYMPSONS, etc.) Also some cartoons shows lifestyle and thoughts of young people such as cartoons in MTV. We analyzed the thoughts of young people today. WE recognize the color worn by young people shows their attitudes and minds. We looked at color Black. Also we looked at a reason why there are so many people eager to buy bland ( GUCCI, CHANEL,etc.) While the society itself is still under the recession. Then we noticed that the songs have great messages, because some of famous artists loved by young people permanently. For e example Pearl Jam, Prince and Michael Jackson (BLACK or WHITE).Whereas people tend to think that political and social problems, such as AIDS, are not so relevant to their ordinary life, the media and artists can attract them. How do they affect young people.

From above, we could see a part of thoughts and attitudes of young people. People trying to get attention of young generation towards society. We must have more discussions and search for more information about this topic, then we can produce an excellent report!

Grammatical corrections and comments
Suggested Correction Short grammatical or logical explanation
We have undertaken the study of the problem of "pop culture". Pop culture tends to set trends in society around the world. Is the current lifestyle of Japanese young people based on reality or only based on fads?

** Pop culture needs to be capitalized.

You need to say "based on" and not "real" or the "fads" only.

"Pop Culture" varies depending on the area; for example fashion, music, and manga. Each type of "pop culture" aims at young people and they sensitively receive the ideas included in the different kinds of pop culture. These days it is often said that modern people aren't interested in social issues. Is this true? If so, does "pop culture" affect modern people? At first, to know more about young people today, let us find out about young people in old days. We looked at young people in 60s.

**You need to capitalize "Pop Culture".

"depending on" is better

Don't start a sentence with "and" except under unusual circumstances .. see the Update Page grammatical help.

"young people" is a plural group .. so you do not need to use the definite article "the"

"modern people aren't " is plural.

..does...affect .. and not is.. affects

Capitalize "We" since the beginning of a sentence

As we mentioned above, there are a variety of things to influence young people in the past as well as today. One of the things which has a great influence is cartoons. Many Japanese of all age groups read cartoons. Some types of MANGA (the Japanese name for all cartoons) contain the critical meaning in it related to political issues and as people read a lot of MANGA, they often get information and ideas about anything related to our society. Also as cartoon character get famous there are companies to produce that of T-shirts, toys and so on (PINGU, SYMPSONS, etc.). Also some cartoons shows lifestyle and thoughts of young people such as cartoons in MTV. We analyzed the thoughts of young people today. WE recognize the color worn by young people shows their attitudes and minds. We looked at the color Black. Also we looked at a reason why there are so many people eager to buy brand names such as ( GUCCI, CHANEL,etc.) while the society itself is still under the recession. Then we noticed that the songs have great messages, because some famous artists loved by young people such as Pearl Jam, Prince, and Michael Jackson(BLACK or WHITE) talk about them. Whereas people tend to think that political and social problems, such as AIDS, are not so relevant to their ordinary life, the media and artists can attract them. How do they affect young people.

**use the indefinite article "a" with "variety of things"

"the past" is better than "old"

use "all age groups" and simplify the sentence as shown.

the word "MANGA" is a special Japanese word. You need to define what it means to a non-Japanese reader.

"they often get... is part of the previous sentence and not a separate sentence.

"color Black" is used as a definite thing..therefore you need the definite article "the"

"brand names such as " and not "bland" .. a spelling mistake and you can either say "brands" or "brand names"

"while the society ..." is not a sentence .. It is a continuation of the previous sentence.."Also we looked at ... " because it is part of the same question "Why are people buying brand names while there is a recession"

You need to be careful in English to place the ideas in the same sentences. Otherwise, you will have words listed together with no meaning because they won't make an entire sentence.

From the above, we could see a part of the thoughts and attitudes of young people. People trying to get attention of young generation towards society. We must have more discussions and search for more information about this topic, then we can produce an excellent report!

**"From above" is poor English.."From the above" is an idiom in English.

you need the definite article "the" since thoughts and attitudes of young people refers to a definite thing.

The sentence "People trying to get attention of young generation towards society." is not a complete sentence. The reader can only "guess" at your meaning. Do you mean that "People who are trying to obtain the attention of young people need to understand how "pop culture" influences their life".. Send me an e-mail if this is what you mean.

Questions for further research by your group and comments on your Executive Report

The following questions and comments should help you to continue and complete your report. If you wish to discuss any of these questions with the instructor, please contact him by e-mail. In addition to the questions listed here, you can, of course, think of your questions to complete you work.

If you use an article from a magazine, newspaper or online (Internet) source, you need to identify where that source came from. We will talk more about "sources of information" in class meetings.

Has Japanese popular culture always existed? Or was Japanese "popular culture" a new thing that occurred after the end of the Second World War.

Do you and most Japanese believe that "pop culture" starts in Japan or is "pop culture" something that is imported to Japan from the west (e.g. England or USA or elsewhere?)... and then changed by the Japanese young people?

Do you think that "pop culture" is created by young people or is created by smart older businessmen who have a general understanding of young people's desires? In other words, is "pop culture" a natural thing or is created by big business?

Does "pop culture" represent the gap between the actual society and the society that young people see? In other words, what is actually "real" or "genuine" about "pop culture" as opposed to being manufactured by businessmen to make money?

As a young person, what are the alternatives to "pop culture"? Do you know young people who do not like "pop culture" or are "turned off" by "pop culture"? If the answer is "yes", then what kinds of alternative entertainment do these young people find?

Is all "pop culture" the same or do you think there is a great variety in pop culture?
