Aloha Friends and Neighbors

Despite the many years of experience representing you at the legislature, every session seems to be more challenging than the previous. However through all the trials and tribulations that besieged the 2008 legislative session, your kind words and valuable input were very crucial in helping to guide me in my decisions on your behalf. This legislative session was more contentious than usual as the State's economy teetered on the edge of a recession forcing us to make drastic cuts to the State budget, while my colleagues in the Senate voted me to be the Chairperson of a special investigative committee which was charged to look into the improper awarding of a contract by the Director of the Department of Business and Economic Development and Tourism. Unfortunately the Governor has chosen to criticize the work of this special investigative committee before we have even completed all of our investigative hearings. I have reprinted in the following pages a copy of my editorial to our local newspapers, responding to the Governor's criticisms of the Senate's Special Investigative Committee. These two issues created a very heavy workload for my staff and me as I am a stickler for making sure I get all the facts and that I am extremely knowledgeable on the issues that I will be working on.
