Aloha! E Komo Mai! Welcome to the web page of Friendship House. Friendship House is a Clubhouse Model psychiatric rehabilition program for people who have experienced a severe or enduring mental illness. Friendship House is a voluntary program where each member's strengths and talents are emphasized rather than their mental illness, symptoms, or psychiatric history. Everyone is wanted and valued at the clubhouse and Friendship House relies on it's members' talents, skills and abilities in order to function.
Members of Friendship House work in partnership with staff in a work ordered day, undertaking all the work and making the decisions necessary to operate the clubhouse. Friendship House offers various employment programs for members to obtain jobs in our community and offers a Supported Education program to assist members with their educational goals. Friendship House has an active social program that operates during evenings, weekends, and holidays.
While attending the clubhouse, people can learn or regain skills necessary to live productive and fulfulling lives. By participating in the clubhouse, members have an opportunity to increase their confidence and self esteem, and to strengthen social, educational, and vocational skills. Friendship House is a certified Clubhouse through the International Center for Clubhouse Development (ICCD).
The work units listed provide a wide range of involvement. All the work of the club is coordinated within these units on a voluntary basis. Friendship House is operated through the Kauai Community Mental Health Center. The Kauai Community Mental Health Center is part of the Adult Mental Health Division within the Department of Health in Hawaii.
