And I sez:

How appropriate that this month's critique features a lunch wagon that features roast turkey!
Tommy's Lunch Wagon is a longtime Honolulu fixture. Located in the business district of Downtown, they have been serving lunches to the hungry office workers for many years. Tommys usually has six different offerings each day. They range from the conventional beef stew and pork tofu to the more specialized tripe stew and roast turkey. Roast turkey is served on Tuesdays/Thursdays and has a Downtown following according to Tommys.

This reviewer went to Tommys on a Monday and was encouraged by quite a few patrons to try the roast pork plate. The patrons in line, in a very unscientific survey, indicated that their favorite offerings were roast turkey, sweet/sour spare ribs and roast pork. The success of a good plate lunch is having the right offering coupled with a good mac salad. The roast pork I had was generous, almost as if it were being sold by the pound. Two of these regular-sized plate lunches could easily be divided to feed 3 NORMAL appettites. The roast pork was tender, not over-cooked as could easily be the case. The gravy was a nice compliment to the meat and also enhanced the flavor of the rice. The mac salad was "OK", not a classic, but acceptable.

Like any other Lunch Wagon located in an office worker zone, if you have a favorite offering you have to get down to the wagon early. It's not unusual to have a specialty sold out by noon. (You snooze, you lose)

Note: RA of Salt Lake E-mailed me asking if the reviews are for real and if I really went to these different places. The answer is YES. My waistline will certainly attest to that.
