Some of the best plate lunch places are recommended by workers who travel on the road. Such was the case with Lehua lunch wagon. LC, a state worker always on the run is always on the lookout for good food at a great price. Lehua lunch wagon is the smallest lunch wagon I have seen to date. It is a blue cargo van with a portable gas stove. With such low overhead and modification costs, it's no wonder the prices are the cheapest I've seen in a long time.
Lehua charges$2.25 for a mini-plate, $3.25 for a regular plate and $4.25 for a two lau lau plate. The portions are pretty good too- not skimpy. There is no extra charge for a combo plate so my fried chicken/lau lau plate only cost $3.25. A regular plate is easily a 3/2 er (Two plates can feed 3 regular eaters. There's usually 6 different plate offerings each day including fried rice.
Fried Chicken/Lau lau combo- wow! Only $3.25!!!
The chicken was crispy and not too greasy. The lau lau was soft and tender, not cold. The lettuce with italian dressing complemented the main entree items. The mac salad did not look very good so I passed on it. LC also indicated that the fried rice is good (Sold in .75 to $1.50 sizes)
Lehua lunch wagon has some good food at great prices. The trick is to find them. Like the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, it's not easy to find. El, (The owner) said that he goes to about 6-8 different locations, stopping by at each location for about 15 to 20 minutes. I only know of the Kakoi Street location- El declined to give the other locations because he said, "I've got lots of customers!"
