You know how they say, "good things come in small packages?" Mitsu-Ken is a very small Okazu
type eatery that is also known for their plate lunches. The whole operation is located in a bldg. about
the size of a garage. Because of its School street location it's easy to miss. Mitsu-Ken's is located across the street from Mitsubas, another okazu in the area.

Surprisingly there is seating for customers in the front, two bench tables seating a total of six people.
Because School street is a busy street, the traffic noise can detract from the eating experience. Mo'
Betta' you eat elsewhere.

Mitsu-Ken was recommended to me by a delivery friend who knows where the good eats are at. Anybody who spends most of their time on the road is going to have a good feel of where the good and cheap eats are. Word of mouth doesn't always work out- see Tommy's Place review. Was my friend right?


"Try the shoyu fried chicken, best on the island, " said my friend . When I went with Dairy executive Tim, that's what we decided to order. At around $5.50 for a combo, we went for the
Ahi /Shoyu fried chicken . It comes with the typical two scoops rice, one scoop mac salad.

The Ahi/Shoyu Fried Chicken Combo- Ono!!!

The salad was average, nothing special. Usually okazu places have pretty good mac/potato salads,
Mitsu-Ken does not fit the bill. The ahi was nice, not too dry- the chicken ? The chicken was really good. Although deep fried, the outside was crispy and the inside was soft and tender. The garlic/shoyu sauce was great, on the sweeter side , just the way I like it. Usually okazu items are pre-cooked, the shoyu fried chicken is cooked when ordered coming out nice and hot.

Tim declared the chicken good also- a thumbs up.
