Wherever you have "blue collar" jobs, plate lunch wagons cannot
be far behind. Most major
construction sites will have a wagon or two which will cater to the hungry
mobs. Like moths to a flame, the wagons will follow their clientele.
Campbell Industrial Park is a major industrial area on
Oahu, so it's not surprising that this area has quite a few plate lunch
wagons.
Like the food court at Ala Moana shopping center, there are ten to twelve
wagons on any given day, six on Hanua street and six on Kalaeloa Blvd.
The wagons have an international
flavor as well. In this area you can find Filipino, Chinese, Mexican, Hawaiian
wagon specialties in addition to the more conventional offerings.
One of the very best in this area is the Sassy Kassy lunch wagon. Several
people told me over the years that this wagon has the very best teri-beef
offerings on the island. When that many people sing the praises of a
particular dish, I gotta try it. I ordered the International omelet/
teri-beef combo.
plate with gravy- at $4.40 it was a bargain. The omelet is kind of like
the egg dishes you find at the
Okazu-ya, some onion and kamaboko with just the right amount of seasoning.

The ter-beef is something special. It's thin sliced with just the right
amount of teri-sauce soaking. The sauce was not too sweet or salty, just
right. The mac salad was average, par for the course.
Sassy Kassy also has a portable grill that they use to BBQ the teri-beef
so that it's nice and hot when
you eat it. When its busy they tend to "charcoal" the ends of
the meat so you should ask not to have it over-cooked. The meat was very
tender and tasty, the best teri-beef I've tasted in a long time. The gravy
was not too thick and complemented the meat and eggs. MAN, this place
is teri-beef heaven!!!!
