Jerry Garver "RETIRES"

In 1964, Jerry Garver began employment at the YMCA of Columbus as a program director at the YMCA South Branch. Three years later, he become Executive Director of the YMCA Suburban East Branch. After only two years in this position, Mr Garver became the Executive Director of the North Branch in addition to the Suburban East Branch. In 1973, he was given the task of raising funds for the construction of the North branch building. Because of his leadership, the North branch was completed in 1978. One year later, Mr Garver was promoted to Associate General Executive and was Vise President of Operations and Finance. One year later in 1980, he was promoted to the Chief Executive Officer of the association. During his tenure as Chief Executive Officer, Mr Garver has overseen the construction of the Suburban East YMCA and the Union County YMCA. Under his leadership, the YMCA raised nearly 5 million dollars which was used to renovate Pickway County, Hilltop, North, and Eldon W. Ward YMCAs. Funds from the campaign were used for new construction at Hoover Y-Park and Central Branch renovation, which was one of the largest renovation projects of an historic downtown YMCA. Although Mr. Garver has made many contributions to the construction and renovation of YMCA property, he has also made significant contributions toward YMCA programs with the introduction of the Corporate Challenge, corporate fitness centers, corporate child care centers, Early Childhood Resource Network (ECRN) Special Populations, The YMCA Country Jamboree and the YMCA Future of America Awards. |
