JESUS: WONDERFUL
DECEMBER 1, 1999
ISAIAH 9:2-7

There’s only 24 days left until Christmas. What’s on your mind?
Are you trying to decide what to buy your kids for Christmas? Are you worried
about finding the time to put up your decorations or finalize what to have
for Christmas dinner?
Christmas means more than this. It marks
the birth of our Savior, Jesus- the fulfillment of the first of many prophesies,
and the beginning of the road to our salvation. Isaiah describes the newborn
child as " wonderful." David Clydesdale, in his song "Isn’t Our Lord Wonderful"
praises our Lord, saying "Isn’t our Lord wonderful? Isn’t He full of grace?
Didn’t he give Himself on the cross, wasn’t that Him in my place?"
What does wonderful mean to you? Webster
defines it as "exciting wonder" or "unusually good." We should be excited
about Jesus, not just at Christmas time. His birth, and more importantly
His death and resurrection, are unusually good for us. Because of Him,
we are assured of having everlasting life.
Amidst all of the hustle and bustle of
the holiday season, take a moment to sit back, relax, and spend time with
God. Thank Him for sending Jesus as our savior and meditate on Jesus’ wonderfulness.
Jesus is the reason for the season, but
He’s also the reason for life.

Isaiah 9:2-7
“2 The people walking in darkness have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.
3 You have enlarged the nation and increased their joy; they rejoice before
you as people rejoice at the harvest, as men rejoice when dividing the
plunder. 4 For as in the day of Midian's defeat, you have shattered the
yoke that burdens them, the bar across their shoulders, the rod of their
oppressor. 5 Every warrior's boot used in battle and every garment rolled
in blood will be destined for burning, will be fuel for the fire. 6 For
to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be
on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of his government
and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David's throne and over
his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness
from that time on and for ever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish
this.”
