DECEMBER 2, 1999 ROMANS 10:14-15 In today’s verses, Paul taught the early church the need to teach the Gospel. The lesson is simple, people cannot call on the name of Jesus Christ to be saved if they have not been told about Him and his life giving sacrifice. I have had the privilege to serve in many different ministries. Probably the most rewarding was working in a deaf ministry in upstate New York. This was not one of the most glamorous ministries the church had to offer. The deaf church met in a small room away from the main sanctuary. Here they were able to hear a sermon the preacher had specifically geared toward them. The most important thing I learned serving was that there are many ways to contribute. You see, I didn’t preach or translate (not one of my gifts), I drove the van that picked the people up and brought them to worship and took them home at the end of the service. Now, at the risk of sounding self-important, I played a vital role in the ministry. Instead of sending the pastor out to preach as they did in Paul’s day, we brought the church to the pastor. My role was just as important to allow them to hear the message of Jesus Christ. I also made many life long friends and take the opportunity to visit them whenever I am in the area. What does all this have to do with us today? We have all been given special gifts to help spread the gospel. Find your gift and use it to help spread the Word. Our time on earth is short and so many people need to know the grace of God. If Christians don’t spread the good news of God’s love, how will they hear? ROB MARKS
