JESUS: DECLARE HIS GLORY
DECEMBER 3, 1999
I CHRONICLES 16:23-24
Christmas is a celebration of words- spoken words. Using the spoken word, angels declared the messages of the Christmas saga to Zechariah, Mary, Joseph, and the shepherds. And what does the Bible reveal so many of these characters doing then? Don’t we see them declaring to others what they knew and how wonderful God was? Mary said, "my soul exalts the Lord, and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior." Zechariah said, "Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for He has visited us and accomplished redemption for His people." The shepherds went, "glorifying and praising God for all that they had heard and seen, just as had been told them."

The Christmas season is a time of sharing the joy of God’s salvation with our voice. We can sing songs of Christmas so others can join out loud with their voice or silently in their spirit. We can share a blessing: "Friend, I pray the joy of the birth of Jesus Christ will bless you this Christmas as much as it has me."  We can share a word of encouragement with a tired sales clerk or store worker: "Remember, friend, that God knows how much your hard work helps our celebration of Jesus Christ during Christmas. Thank you!" And Christmas presents us a wonderful opportunity: we can turn a conversation toward the love of God in Christ so easily. The minds of so many are already on the Christmas holidays, Christmas presents, and Christian parties! If there ever was a time for us to heed the words of the Psalms, " Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom He hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy;" it is during the Christmas season.
