JESUS: BELIEF WILL COME WHEN PREACHED
DECEMBER 4, 1999
JONAH 3:1-5

God instructed Jonah to go to Nineveh and tell them of their demise unless they repented. He walked through the city and cried out God’s message to the people of Nineveh. When the people heard the passion of his message, they knew God was coming with great destruction. How would we act today if someone walked through Mililani crying, in 40 days Mililani will be destroyed. It seems we never hear the message. Why?

In reading this passage, you get the idea that things were different then. They were. The difference wasn’t the way people acted, but the time in history. We are fortunate to live in a land where we are free to worship. We should be more like the people of Nineveh. The people of Nineveh, from the least to the greatest, put on sackcloth and fasted. These were signs to God of true repentance.

So, how do we act more like the people of Nineveh? We called a pastor to lead our church. Before we chose him, God chose him. We didn’t have a lot to do with his coming here, but God burdened our hearts to accept our pastor and his family. This wasn’t a burden but a blessing.

Our pastor gives us God’s word. These are not his words but God’s. Our pastor is doing the same thing Jonah did. He is out crying the message in the street. Praise God that more people are listening to him and assisting him in completing the work that God sent him here for.

Jonah 3:1-5
“1 Then the word of the LORD came to Jonah a second time: 2 "Go to the great city of Nineveh and proclaim to it the message I give you." 3 Jonah obeyed the word of the LORD and went to Nineveh. Now Nineveh was a very important city--a visit required three days. 4 On the first day, Jonah started into the city. He proclaimed: "Forty more days and Nineveh will be overturned." 5 The Ninevites believed God. They declared a fast, and all of them, from the greatest to the least, put on sackcloth.”
