JESUS: LIGHT OF THE WORLD

JOHN 8:12

      At this time of the year we are reminded of lights decorating homes and trees, or perhaps even the stars that light up the night sky. Even the tiniest spark shines beacons to be seen in the darkness. The title of today’s devotion reminds me of the children’s song, This Little Light of Mine. You know the song, This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine….That’s exactly what Jesus wants us to do once we become a Christian, to be a shining witness for Him. Matthew 5:16 has something else to say about light, we are to let it shine. It is easy to be a light to the world when we feel good and things are going well, but that isn’t always the case is it? We can’t be a part-time Christian and be a light to the world for Jesus, it is a full-time job! 

In the worst of situations, when we feel that the world is closing in around us, it is at that time we must take a stand for Jesus and radiate what His love means. It is at that moment that the light of the world must shine to glorify Jesus and His Kingdom, Proverbs 4:18.
 
 

John 8:12 “12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
