DECEMBER 15, 1999 ISAIAH 9:2-7 We may have gone to the park or the shopping center that day, but the thing I remember most was when he left. A quick kiss and a bear hug. "Bye Daddy. Do you have to go?" He nodded and started his motorcycle. Vrrrroom. Teary eyed, I headed straight for my bedroom. The large puffy pillow provided no comfort for my aching chest. One of my brothers asked angrily, "why are you crying? We’ll see him again next week." I knew that he loved me even though he didn’t live with us. But try explaining that to a child who just wants their dad around. As the years passed, I somehow coped with not having a father living at home. Today I have a good relationship with my dad. I call him on the phone or see him on a day’s notice. Jesus is called the Everlasting Father. Jesus’ love for us is tender like a father’s love. A father would provide, give comfort and security, and would lead with wisdom and authority. As earthly parents we want to give all this and more to our own children. Moreover, Jesus is able to care for us with no earthly limits. I need only to call upon Him, on my knees, and I am able to feel his everlasting arms surrounding me with his Fatherly love, now and forevermore. ELISE BUENCONSEJO
