Introduction

You recently had an accident in your home. Maybe it was just a broken water pipe. Perhaps it was worse. You notified your insurance agent and explained just what happened. Now you are anxious to get back to normal but are faced with several concerns. How much will all this cost? Who will do the repairs? When will the adjuster settle the claim, Will I be treated justly, compensated fairly, and paid within a reasonable amount of time?

The purpose of this guide it to answer these questions by assisting you using a step by step approach. It will take the mysticism out of the claims process and give you a level playing field to settle your claim.

After all, your insurance policy is no more than an agreement for reimbursement of costs attributed to a covered loss. Your claim, therefor, is simply your notification that payment is due. And the clearer your notification the better protected you are for receiving an accurate settlement in the minimal amount of time.
