Phonetic Editors

Whenever you encounter a mispronounced word, you have the opportunity to teach HELP Read how to correctly pronounce the word. To do so, select the word, choose Word, Pronounce from the program menu, and, when prompted, phoneticly misspell the word.

These phonetic misspellings are stored in two files in the HELP Read subdirectory:

    • Custom.dic: HELP Read checks this dictionary first when trying to pronounce a word.

    • New.dic: this is a backup of the words which you have phoneticly misspelled.

Whenever new.dic exceeds 10K in size, we'd greatly appreciate it if you'd attach the file to an email. Then delete the file so that the same words aren't repeatedly sent. Important: never delete custom.dic.

In the future we will compile phonetics from all the dictionaries we receive into a new HELP Read.dic. This updated file will be made available on the download page of this site so that everyone can update their system and enjoy better, more accurate readings.
