Homework policy
In a language class homework is very important because it provides the practice and repetition necessary to acquire speaking and writing skills that are necessary for effective communication.
All homework (including practice assignments)* is due at the beginning of the period. If the homework is not completed when I first call for it, you must report to me during non class time to complete the assignment. It is not acceptable to do it in another class and simply turn it in at lunch. If you wish to use study halls to do your homework, you must do it in a study hall before the due date. If homework is consistently not turned in on time, you will be scheduled to report to me during non class time to complete the following day's homework before leaving school for the day.
Note: The grade on all late work will be lowered by ten percent of the total value of the assignment each day the assignment is past due. For example the score on an assignment worth 100 points that was two days late would be lowered by 20 points. Late work can not be made up. If you are not sure of how to do the work make an educated guess and turn in your best effort on time. You will be allowed to redo homework that is turned in on time for a better grade. REDO: All work marked with REDO can be corrected for full credit. A REDO will be assigned 2 points until it is corrected.
All work must be written in dark blue or black pen. "Voc. 5 times" or other written work requiring repetition of words may not be done on a word processor. It must be hand written. Work not requiring repetition may be done on a typewriter or computer.
Work must be labeled with unit lesson and activity numbers. For example 2.2 act.4,5
Before turning in homework please do the following:
Proof read it for:
Spelling
Accent marks
Agreement of
Verb/subject
Nouns / adjectives gives
Indirect object pronouns / clarifier
Reflexive pronouns / subject
Content. Does it make sense as you read it aloud?
Study all exercises in each lesson until you can give the answers orally or write them down without referring to the book and you cab explain the process or concept in your own words without looking at the book or notes.
Make sure notebooks are organized and that they along with other supplies are brought to class daily.
*Some daily homework assignments and classwork assignments are given for practice only. They will not be used to determine the quarter grade but simply to gauge progress before tests. However, you are still required to participate in all class activities and to complete all the practice homeworks,
Warning:
This is a college prep school. One of the things you must learn is independent study skills. During second semester there will be fewer reminders given to you about coming in to make up or correct work. If you fail to follow through on your own, deans and or parents will be notified. It is very important that you learn to take initiative to advocate for your needs whether it be questions or needs of exceptions to due dates or some other need. You must take the first steps. I am available first break, and at other times by appointment.
The school policy of absences and tardies are still in place.
Semester grades
Since each step in the language builds upon previous knowledge and skills and old material is constantly recycled in new ways, progress in the second part of the semester also indicates mastery of previous material. Therefore, what is done toward the end of the semester should have more weight than what is done in the earlier part of the course.
Weights for semester grades
First quarter 30 %
Second quarter 50%
Semester test 20%
Third quarter 30 %
Fourth quarter 50%
Semester test 20
